Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is Self Mosaic?

Self Mosaic is a self-guided app for inner exploration based on Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. It helps you discover, understand, and build relationships with different aspects of yourself—leading to greater self-awareness and emotional wellbeing.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that views the mind as naturally multiple—containing various "parts" or aspects that developed to protect us. In Self Mosaic, we call these Guardians, Responders, and Tender Ones. The goal is to help your wisest self (Core) lead your inner system with compassion.

Is Self Mosaic a replacement for therapy?

No. Self Mosaic is a self-help tool for personal exploration and growth. It's not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you're dealing with trauma, severe distress, or mental health conditions, we encourage working with a licensed therapist—ideally one trained in IFS.

How do I get started?

Download the app and follow the onboarding flow. You'll learn the basics of inner multiplicity, meet your first aspect, and start your journey. The app progressively introduces concepts as you're ready for them.

Using the App

What are Guardians, Responders, and Tender Ones?

  • Guardians are protective aspects that proactively manage your life to prevent pain (like inner critics, perfectionists, or worriers).
  • Responders are reactive aspects that jump in when emotions get overwhelming (like the part that reaches for distractions or numbs out).
  • Tender Ones are younger aspects carrying vulnerable feelings and memories from difficult experiences.

What is "Core" and how do I access it?

Core is your natural state of calm, clarity, curiosity, and compassion. It's not an aspect—it's who you are beneath all the protective parts. The app includes practices to help you access Core, like guided meditations and grounding exercises.

What if a practice feels too intense?

You can stop any practice at any time. The app includes grounding exercises and "containment" practices for when things feel overwhelming. Trust your inner system—if something feels wrong, honor that feeling and take a break.

Why are some features locked?

Self Mosaic uses progressive disclosure to introduce concepts safely. Deeper practices (like working with Tender Ones) unlock as you build foundation skills. This protects you from going too deep too fast without proper grounding.

Privacy & Data

Is my data private?

Yes. Your aspects, journals, and insights stay on your device. We use local-first architecture—we can't read your therapeutic data even if we wanted to. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Settings → Data → Export to download your data in a portable format. You own your inner work.

What if I want to delete my account?

Since most data lives on your device, you can simply delete the app. If you have cloud sync enabled, use Settings → Account → Delete Account to remove all cloud data.

Subscription & Billing

Is Self Mosaic free?

Self Mosaic offers a free tier with core features including daily check-ins, basic aspect tracking, and foundational practices. Premium features (advanced practices, deeper insights, unlimited aspects) require a subscription.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Go to your device's subscription settings to cancel. You'll retain premium access until the end of your current billing period.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are processed through Apple or Google according to their policies. Contact Apple Support or Google Play Support for refund requests.
